The Gay Rights Movement is a social movement to promote and protect the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) people.
The movement began in the late 19th century when LGBTQ individuals were regarded as sexual deviants. The first Gay Rights Movements started in the early 20th century in Germany and the United States. The goal of these movements was to decriminalize homosexuality. Over time, these movements have evolved to include fighting for marriage equality and civil rights for LGBTQ individuals.
