April WIP ‘Road Trip’ Writing challenge! #JusticeforBelle

Didi Oviatt -Author

“Urrrgh, I’m coming. I’m coming.”

I mumble to myself, as the excruciating rap rap rapping on my door once again jabs the feeling of a needle point pin into my migraine. I don’t get them very often, but when I do I wipes me right out. It’s probably because I spent the entire day at the lake with Lucy. I soaked up the perfect amount of sun, it was bliss. Until I managed to go several hours without a drink of water, I didn’t even realize my idiocy.

Lucy said that she’d be back later to check on me, but I didn’t expect her so soon. I rub and pinch at the little space between my eyes. The attempt to relieve any pressure is moot. I sigh and swing the door open, with my eyes hardly open and my focus planted firmly at my feet.

But professionals who say they’re treating eating disorders should 100% not be prescribing behaviors for larger bodied people that are diagnosed as eating disorders in smaller bodied people. That is to say prescribing starvation diets and obsessive behaviors to people just to get them to lose a few pounds that are likely to come back anyway is not ethical or evidence based care.
When seeking out providers for your eating disorder treatment such as a dietitian, therapist, and doctor, pay attention to whether their marketing material…

If Diets Worked, We’d All Be Thin

Christina Frangione Nutrition Therapy

if diets worked wed all be thin

So think about it for a second. If restricting food and exercising led to sustained weight loss over time, every single one of us would be in smaller bodies. We’d all look more or less the same.
But that’s not how it works.
There has always been body diversity and there will always be body diversity. Most people are not genetically set up to look like supermodels.
If you’ve dieted and you’re still not in a small body, that’s not your fault! It’s never your fault for “failing” a diet. And it’s not just that you haven’t found the right one. There is no one right diet.
