Lemony Tomato Zucchini Tart

A good friend of mine gave me some zucchini from her garden that were absolutely HUGE!  I am still coming up with some good zucchini recipes that do them justice.  They are so delicious!  Fresh is always best, and even better when they have been grown with love.   I make tomato tarts quite often, and I use a wide variety of tomatoes.  I  especially love using the heirloom tomatoes.  This was the first time I decided to make them with zucchini though.  I don’t know why I never tried this before because I love both tomatoes and zucchini, as well as almost all other vegetables, but there is a first time for everything I guess.  Now I know I will definitely be doing this again; real soon.  Adding lemon to dishes really seems to make them perfect for spring and summer, and it just seems to make them really fresh…

This Thing Called Life One Word at a Time

I’m on vacation! And I have to tell you, it is a lovely place to be. I’m also with my sister, visiting another sister and we’re having the best time. We just finished making and eating a yummy dinner and now we are going to relax and share even more sister time. It’s been everything I’d hoped and even more. I’ll be sad when it comes to an end.

None of that has anything to do with the theme this week. I honestly decided on the theme this morning while talking. It is similar to one I’ve used in the past, but I think it’s different enough to make it’s own weekly share.

The Writing Chamber: The Best Ways to Write Information in Your Horror

When writing a story, it’s really easy to write with “then speak.” What I mean by that is when the story goes:

She walked to the house and then opened the door. Then she looked inside.

This is a very literal example of this writing faux pas, but it happens all the time. Now imagine reading a really intense horror story with this kind of writing. Just from language alone, it’ll change from spooky to boring. As the writer, you want to intensify the creepiness of your horror, not dull it out by how you write it.

By now you’re probably asking how. How do you write a horror while avoiding the use of then? Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying you can never use this word but as the writer, you shouldn’t rely on the word then to describe your story. Instead, rely on this writer’s rule: Show…

One spring evening, we attended a concert at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris.  The light from the evening sky poured through the cathedral windows, highlighting them in brilliant shades of blue, purple, and gold.  By luck, we were in the cathedral at twilight, the time when the color blue is especially intense and creates dramatic effects.   Photographers call this time the Blue Hour.

For this week’s challenge, share your interpretation of blue—the color, the mood, or the time of day.  It’s up to you!
