Snowy Egret At The Trunk

Water was flowing quickly between the old rice fields and the Ashley River. The Snowy was taking advantage of anything that was swept by.

A ‘Trunk’ is a water gate. The same principal has been used to control the flows here for centuries. It’s simple, a wooden door in a frame, and effective.

A Great Blue Heron was standing not 10 feet away, but hidden behind reeds. I had no shot.

It’s assumed the implementation of water trunks in the lowcountry was brought here by the original planters from Barbados. The slaves were from West Africa originally where trunks were common in rice fields.

A Quick Note (regarding WP spam filter)

Night Owl Poetry - Dorinda Duclos

Just a quick note, to my friends, far and near

Please don’t think I ignore those I hold dear

Your comments always mean to the world to me

I try to reply back, as long as I can see

The black of your text, saying hi or whatever

But WordPress, again, is squashing my endeavor

I have found you scattered, in the spam, on my blog

Good thing I keep checking, that silly ole log

So forgive me, for taking so long to respond

I’ve finally saved you from drowning, in the WP pond

Daily Two Word Prompt Beautiful Soul

In your heart there is a stream

That streams so quiet and still

In your eyes there I see a light

That sparkles like the sun

Beautiful soul lovely soul

Awesome light inside thy eyes

I feel my heart raising as I look at your eyes

Your eyes, your eyes loaded with light

Leads the route to your spirit
